SIG Angels Philippines extends help to the citizens through the Community Pantry project

Written by SIG Angels Philippines representative

In this world we live in, we are often bound by different financial needs and responsibilities. A lot of us already have so much on our own plates, yet despite the daily struggles, it is like second nature to us to always help and give, especially on behalf of our beloved idols. We give not because we have more, but because it is what our heart wants. We give not because we desire fame, but because it is love that really counts.

At this time of great risk where all is tired, weary, and lost, SIG Angels Philippines took the initiative to share blessings and love through fellow SIG Angel Kristine Santos. Kristine is one of Seo In Guk’s fans here in the Philippines, who is also an Airen and an EXO-L, recently trended for putting up an EXO-themed community pantry in Barangay Maysilo, Malabon City.

Driven by the inspiration to promote her favorite Korean actors and artists and having the desire to offer food and other essentials to those in need, Kristine’s project expanded from being an EXO-themed pantry to involving other fandoms, such as SIG Angels Philippines.

The community pantry in Malabon, now also K-drama inspired, featured some donations sponsored by fellow Seo In Guk fans within the country. It was such short notice, but SIG Angels Philippines was able to come up with an ample amount for the purchase of fresh produce, vegetables, eggs, sardines, and sacks of rice, among others.

Since Kristine’s community pantry in Malabon started to grow even bigger, she was assisted by fellow SIG Angels Betty Leepark Kharisma and Cheena Tan who helped in manning the pantry while reminding people to practice social distancing, to observe health protocols, and more importantly, to give what they can and take only what they need (magbigay ayon sa kakayahan, kumuha batay sa pangangailangan).

SIG Angel Kristine’s well-collaborated community pantry project inspired more Seo In Guk fans to continue doing the same. Thus, SIG Angels Philippines plans to hold a second batch of gift-giving by putting up our very own community pantry at Southville, Sta. Rosa this May.

SIG Angels Philippines’ collaboration with Kristine’s community pantry in Malabon adds to the roster of the fan club’s numerous successful projects here and in Korea since its launch way back in 2015. Among the most notable projects that SIG Angels Philippines were able to initiate includes the annual Angel Project held at the Philippine Children’s Medical Center in support of cancer patient kids, charity and donation drives for the victims of Taal and the pandemic, rice wreath and orphanage projects in South Korea, and the most recent campaign for hundreds of neglected animals courtesy of Angel Project 2020.

Indeed, as Winston S. Churchill said, “We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.” The smile that graced the faces of the people we have helped eager us to help more people who are in need.

For sponsorship and donations regarding the 2nd Community Pantry Project, do not hesitate to contact any of the SIG Angels PH admin via official Facebook Page, Seo In Guk 서인국 SIG Angels Philippines or @sigph.1023. Thank you!
