Korea round off canoe sprint events with two more silver medals

Korea took two more silver medals on the water with a second-place finish in both the men’s and women’s four-person kayak 500-meter contests on Tuesday.
The final races marked Korea’s last day of the canoe sprint schedule, ending the competition with three medals — all silver — in the sport.
The men’s team of Cho Gwang-hee, Jang Sang-won, Jeong Ju-hwan and Jo Hyun-hee finished with a time of 1 minute and 25.006 seconds, coming behind China, with a time of 1 minute 23.859 seconds.
But the Korean team finished inches ahead of Japan, with 1 minute and 25.751 seconds after surpassing the Japanese rowers in the second half of the race.
The duo of Cho and Jang earlier won Korea’s first canoe sprint medal on Monday with a silver-medal finish in the men’s kayak double 500-meter contest.
The women’s 500-meter kayak final followed, with the Korean squad of Choi Ran, Lee Han-sol, Jo Shin-young and Lee Ha-lin finishing with a time of 1 minute and 42.87 seconds, well behind China’s 1 minute and 39.96 seconds but ahead of Uzbekistan’s 1 minute and 42.958 seconds.
They also came from behind, knocking Uzbekistan out of silver in the second half.
Korea otherwise had a disappointing day at the Fuyang Water Sports Centre, finishing in the bottom half in the women’s single canoe 200-meter and men’s double canoe 1,000-meter races. Korea's Jo finished fifth in the women’s single kayak 500-meter final.
Rowers compete with both canoes and kayaks in the canoe sprint and slalom categories at the Asian Games. Korea will have a shot at upping their medal count on the water in the canoe slalom events, still to be held at the end of the Games on Friday and Saturday.
