Seo Geon-woo misses podium in men's -80kg taekwondo

Seo Geon-woo missed out on a medal in the taekwondo men’s -80-kilogram competition at the Paris Olympics on Sunday, losing 2-0 to Edi Hrnic of Denmark at the Grand Palais in Paris.
 
Seo, 20, was outclassed from the start in the bronze medal match, losing the first round 15-2 to the 20-year-old Dane and dropping a narrower second round 11-8.

Seo earlier lost his semifinal 2-1 to Mehran Barkhordari of Iran. En route to the final four he beat Henrique Rodrigues Fernandes of Brazil and Joaquin Churchill Martinez of Chile.
 
Seo is the first Korean taekwondo practitioner to miss out on a medal in Paris. Park Tae-joon earlier won the gold medal in the men’s -58 kilograms and Kim Yu-jin won the women’s -57 kilograms.
 
Lee Da-bin will be the last Korean in action in taekwondo on Saturday as she competes in the women’s +67 kilogram.
