Navillera: An inspiring story about following your dreams
A heartwarming and inspiring drama that will give you hope during these trying times. It will instill some values and realizations that things can still get better and that it is not too late to follow your dreams whoever or how old you are.
Based on webtoon, Navillera tells the story of two people who have the same dream — ballet. Sim Deok Chul (Park In Hwan) a retired man in his 70s has always dreamt of performing ballet since he was a child, but never got the chance to. Lee Chae Rok (Song Kang), on the other hand, an independent boy in his 20’s who is very talented in ballet but due to his life predicament, he’s having a hard time focusing on ballet.
After accidentally seeing Lee Chae Rok practicing, Sim Deok Chul‘s life-long dream was awakened. Their journey towards their dream will inspire, touch, and teach you a variety of things. A simple dream as it may seem but the path towards it is never easy. It may be hard but in the end, it’s all worth it.
My Thoughts:
From the first episode up to the recent one, I found myself captivated with how it was beautifully written. It does not only inspire and teach you a lesson, but it also gives you comfort. You will fall in love with Park In Hwan‘s interpretation of his character as Sim Deok Chul, our kind-hearted, cool, patient, and understanding haraboji.
Another interesting aspect about the drama is the way they showed the difference between how each generation thinks. But doesn’t end there, their subtle and yet impacting way of exhibiting the different kinds of “Dreams” will make you reflect on so many things. It will even make you ask the questions, “What is my lifelong dream?”, “Is the dream I am pursuing mine or am I just doing it to make someone happy?”, “Do I blame someone for my unfulfilled dream?”
These questions hit me and made me reflect on so many things in my life. It made me think about how we assure ourselves that we can still pursue our dreams once everything settles, but then the time has passed and we sometimes forgot all about it. By the time we got to remember these hidden dreams, doubt and hesitations will linger and we think that it is already too late to fulfill them. The result is the end of our dreams as mere dreams that we once thought of.
If you are looking for an encouraging, uplifting and heartwarming story, this one is for you. What more can be inspiring than a 70-year-old man trying to learn ballet despite his age? But it’s not only that, but this drama will also teach you a thing or two about life and how to respect our elders because their age is not just numbers, their age comes with knowledge that is based on years of experience.
Navillera can be watched on Netflix every Monday and Tuesday.
** Remember, it’s not too late to follow your dreams, and your dreams will never come true unless you take that one step towards it. Go for it and be happy.
